How do prices of movie tickets differ across Canada?
For this analysis we reviewed the major theatre chains across the country which we defined as any company with 5 or more theatre locations.
We compared the prices of a single, adult, general admission ticket, in Canadian dollars. Discounted tickets (common on Tuesday nights) were not included.
Number of Theatres
For this analysis, we reviewed any major theatre chain with 5 or more locations in Canada. Cineplex is by far the largest company with 160 locations, followed by Landmark Cinemas at 42.
It is no surprise that the largest province by population (Ontario) also has the highest number of theatres.
There was not enough data available to provide reasonable numbers for Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories.
Average Cost by City
Ticket prices tend to be higher on average in larger cities throughout Canada. Not surprisingly, more theatres are located in areas with higher populations.
